Thursday 26 October (approx. 9am-5pm)
with a full day in the studio on Friday 27 October, 11.30am – 5pm
Following our successful, sold-out Art Day Out to Oxford in August,
we are swapping the city for the seaside for our next Art Day Out 2 day course.
Join us as we leave London for Hastings on the south east coast for a fun day out of art-viewing, research and sketching on Thursday October 26.
Then enjoy a full day in our studio on Friday October 27 for the chance to work at your own pace and explore and develop your ideas further through drawing, painting or mixed-media work.

On the Thursday, we will travel by train to Hastings in the morning and arrive around noon. We will walk to the Jerwood Gallery to see the new Paula Rego exhibition, The Boy Who Loved The Sea and Other Stories (opens Sat Oct 21), which features new drawings, paintings, prints and sculptures by one of Britain’s leading artists in what will be Rego’s first UK public gallery exhibition in a decade.
There will also be a chance to see the Jerwood’s permanent collection.
Lunch around 2pm is a perfect opportunity to enjoy fresh fish and chips by the sea (or you can enjoy the town’s other eateries or tuck into a packed lunch). You can spend the rest of the afternoon responding to the coastline, beach scenes or urban landscape. We’ll head back into London in the early evening.
The next day, Friday 27 October, we’ll be back at OPEN Ealing for a full, productive day in our studio – a fantastic opportunity to work with your research and sketches from your Hastings trip with helpful guidance and lots of time to make work.
Please note your course fee doesn’t include the following:
Please take into account that we will be on our feet for most of the day, so only consider the trip if you are able to walk / stand for considerable time.
