Artist and OPEN Ealing tutor, Mario Lautier Vella exhibits a selection of drawings for his first solo show at OPEN Ealing.
Entitled, ‘Home Truths (Drawing Daily or Thereabouts)’, the show consists of a number of small drawings made from April to August this year for a project where Mario committed to drawing every day for 100 days. The project originated from a call out on Instagram for artists to do something creative daily and post their results online.
Working with a small sketchbook and pencil, the project began with a figurative drawing made one evening in the British Museum and ended with an abstract piece created whilst on holiday in Seville.
The sketchbook quickly became Mario’s constant companion. From late night drawings in bed to drawing first thing on his commute, Mario drew at home, on trains, on buses, in cabs, cafes, museums, galleries, studios, classrooms and hotel rooms. Inspiration came from observing life, recalled memories, found images, dreams, automatic drawing techniques or a combination of approaches.
