OPEN Ealing | How to look at an image

How to look at an image

Date/Time

Thursday 18th May 2017
7:30 pm - 10:30 pm

The Orchard Cafe,
singapore Road, W13 0EP

How many of us love visual art, but want to go beyond the simple emotional response of “I like/I don’t like”?

How many of us have done, or are doing a course where they expect you to know how to look at and interpret an image? No matter if it is a painting, sculpture or photograph – you are expected to have acquired the knowledge without being given the tools to do so.

Do these two statements strike a chord with you? If you are like me and know what it is to feel as if you have an idea but are not quite sure, this evening is for us.

Asking a few simple, intuitive questions, Philippe Géhin guides us and helps us understand what to look at, and to look for, when we are faced with a work of visual art. Using a very practical approach illustrated through numerous examples across centuries and art movements, he gives us the keys that we need to decipher works of art, and better appreciate them.

As members of the audience in previous presentations can attest, we shall start looking at visual art in a totally different light and be able to engage fully in the next art history course we attend. Hallelujah, at last there is someone who understands my frustration!”

A fab way to increase our know how in a friendly and supportive setting with a great lecturer who has an encyclopedic knowledge of the subject. Don’t miss this one off opportunity to learn from Philippe about how to read an image.

We’ve food and drink via the cafe too, if you fancy indulging! Look forward to seeing you.
