A series of lectures with Nick Pearson. The course is a journey through the history of Modern design, beginning in the mid 1800s with William Morris and the Arts and Crafts Movement’s rejection of mass-produced goods seen in the famous Great Exhibition in 1851. Also covering Art Nouveau and Expressionism, Art Deco, the effect of war and post-war optimism and the 1950s and 60s, where we should recognize many of the techniques, styles and surfaces we know well today.
