Join Samira and like minded students in an uplifting and enjoyable workshop where you create the most amazing and beautiful patterns using only a straight edge and a compass. The patterns you learn have adorned Mosques, Madrassas and Palaces for over twelve centuries across the Islamic Lands and beyond.
You will learn to construct an Islamic Geometric pattern starting with a plain piece of paper, step by step we will draw layers of lines and circles using a compass and straight edge. From this underlying grid a pattern will emerge. We will outline, trace and transfer the pattern to watercolour paper, to be decorated using watercolour pencils & paints
Materials: All materials and equipment you need will be provided to complete the course. Once you have been bitten by the bug and your confidence and enthusiasm builds, Samira will advise what equipment you need to invest in to continue producing beautiful designs.
Fee: The workshop costs 21 per person. Please follow this link to book and pay for your place. https://www.samiramian.uk/open
The class is limited to seven people – so don’t delay!
About the Tutor: Samira Mian
Samira began studying this form of Islamic Art in September 2013 with The Art of Islamic Pattern. The genuinely inspirational teaching of the Adam Williamson & Richard Henry led her to complete three 10 week courses and a field trip to Granada, Spain with them. She spent 2015 in Fez, Morocco, studying Arabic and in her spare time analysing, constructing and painting geometric patterns in the inspirational environment of the old Medina. She tapped into her 15+ years’ teaching experience and went on to run a series of workshops there with the American Language Centre. Samira now runs workshops closer to home in Harrow, Kingston, Leeds and Manchester and Ealing. http://www.samiramian.uk/
