Introducing a new short course
for anyone who wants to develop their mixed media and drawing skills
Fridays | 10am to 1pm
Jessica Rose leads this five week course and challenges your drawing and mixed media skills and techniques. Every Friday morning she sets you a challenge and guides you through the process as you respond to the brief.
Here’s a sneak peek at some of the things you will be perfecting:
Terracotta pots: Learn to draw ellipses and cylinders accurately to build up a composition of flowers in terracotta pots.
Jessica will show you a variety of colour mixes to create exciting and varied hues of terracotta. You will also learn how to paint wet-in-wet to create the effect of masses of blooms cascading from the pots. Some source material will be provided (we’ve loads of pots!), but please bring photographs of your own garden, balcony or holiday terrace for inspiration.
Trees: Want to avoid the pitfall of drawing trees that look like a row of lollipop sticks?
By the end of the session you will be able to draw trees swiftly and accurately to build up a credible woodland composition. Youll also be shown how to add colour, texture and tone to trees using tools ranging from plastic cards, to texture paste, to your own knuckles! Source material (pictures of trees and woodlands) will be provided but please bring your own if you wish.
Monoprints: Create one-of-a-kind prints using a technique practised by artists ranging from 19th Century masters such as Degas to Tracey Emin in the modern day.
You can do any drawing or design you like using monoprinting so please bring your own source material (sketchbooks, photos, objects to draw etc) for inspiration.
Secrets of snow: Spatter, smear, mask and paint your way to a spectacular snowscape.
Use the drawing technique of negative shapes to construct your composition, then apply masking fluid, watercolour, white gouache and even salt to build up shimmering winter scenes. Some source material will be provided but please bring your own sketches and photographs of snow scenes for inspiration.
Materials: Basic materials will be provided and Jessica advises what to buy if you want to invest and extend your personal range of equipment and materials.
Exhibition: The course will culminate in an exhibition of your work in the cafe over the Easter holidays with a private view to be arranged.
