“Immortalise” your favourite building in clay

Thursday 13 September

10am – 3pm

Corinne Scurr frequently gets requests from people asking her to create a ceramic tile of their home and we are delighted she has agreed to lead a one off session at OPEN to help you make your own tile.

During the 4-hourworkshop you will get to lovingly trace and draw your most favourite property in clay, to be fired and preserved as a beautiful white earthenware tile for years to come!

You also get to learn about

  • slab rolling
  • tile cutting
  • the use of pottery tools to draw and inscribe
  • how to create texture (think bricks and roof tiles!)
  • refine your drawing skills through the use of these tools

Your finished tile measures 20 x 20cm and is created from white earthenware clay. (Early Christmas gift I hear you cry – for you or a friend! Once you’ve learned the techniques in class, you are all set to create a whole set at home and talk to Corinne about firing.)

All materials are included in the workshop fee: but you will need to bring a picture of your favourite property to trace. It should be A4 size.

We’ll break for lunch at 1pm and Vix will have a couple of daily specials in addition to the standard menu.

About the tutor: Corinne Scurr

Corinne has been practicing ceramics for over ten years.

Since completing a degree in Contemporary Crafts in 2010 she has developed a practice of slab building and surface decoration using textured tools and coloured ceramic slips.

Her work is mainly tile based with hand-drawn, surface designs and some freestanding multi-layered tile dioramas.

You can see more of Corinnes work online at www.thekilnhouse.blogspot.co.uk and keep up to date with her most recent projects on Instagram: @cozzieanne, and Facebook: Corinne Anne.
