Three artists will be shortlisted and for, a small fee, be invited to develop their proposals to present to a selection panel.
As part of Tideway’s Art on the Tideway programme, Tideway is delighted to announce a further call for artists.
Tideway would like to commission an artist to create a series of commissions that express the transformational importance of the Thames Tideway Tunnel for London and its relationship with the river and to enhance the high quality public spaces and experience of the river for Londoners and visitors.
As part of the Art on the Tideway programme, Tideway wants to commission an artist to enhance design of the 15m-high bespoke ventilation columns for Carnwath Road Riverside and Acton Storm Tanks sites and a create a smaller intervention at Hammersmith Pumping Station. The commissions will be bespoke and site-specific. Acton Storm Tanks will mark the beginning of the Thames Tideway Tunnel and there is the opportunity to celebrate the start of the tunnel in the local area and enhance the townscape.
The successful artist will work collaboratively with the design and engineering teams to develop detailed proposals for the commissions and oversee the fabrication and installation at a later date. There is the opportunity to use colour, form and text, through casting and etching, blasting and embossing processes on pre cast concrete.
We welcome applications from artists working in all disciplines, though given the nature of commissions we ideally would like prior experience of working at scale and in three dimensions. We especially encourage applications from artists who are based in London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham or London Borough of Ealing or with a good knowledge of these areas.
The deadline for applications is 12pm, mid day on Sunday 13 November 2016.
